The Marxists?

Today as I was perusing the news, as I'm want to do from time to time, and I found this little gem of a story. In brief, it says that a Marxist group name the Revolutionary Struggle claimed responsibility for throwing a bomb at the US embassy. I find this hilarious for a number of reasons:

  1. What sort of pansy waste organization is proud of the fact that they threw, and missed mind you, a grenade at a US emblem?
  2. How could this possibly further the cause of the international working man?
  3. 16 years after the fall of Communism in Eastern Europe you'd think that at least one group of radicals could brainstorm to produce a cooler name.

On that last point, let it be known that there are several finely named leftist groups out there. The Tamil Tigers of Sri Lanka and Sendero Luminoso of Peru both have fabulous and fitting names. It just seems that our old pro-prole anti-imperialist European Marxist groups miss out. It is a new era and they are still fucking around with lame ass titles like Red Brigades and Revolutionary Guard. Perhaps you could incite more class consciousness if you had a more appealing, less vague name. Like say- Fuck Anyone Rich- F.A.R. for short. Or perhaps something like The Spartan Socialists. Of course, just lobbing the sporadic grenade at the occasional embassy emblem is downright preposterous by today's standards. The Arabs have raised the bar so high these days that you'd have to drive a busload of children and dynamite into a nuclear reactor to really generate the sort of publicity they clearly want.
